Navel jewellery available to decorate the belly button

The body piercing trend which is finding a substantial place in the urban set up today has a very old history that can be tracked down through cultures. The places in the body normally to be pierced are the ears, the nose, the tongue, the eyebrows, the belly button (navel) etc. These piercing are then adorned with navel jewellery.

Amongst these various areas, the piercing of the navel jewellery is one of the most up coming one. From the Arabian belly dancers in the past to the modern city girl of today everyone seems to be flaunting one. The ratio of females having their navels pierced is more than those of males. This is because the embellishment adorning the navel piercing accentuates the upper torso which is slightly oval and found to be considerably long in women. The ideal navel to be pierced is that with a slender bulge outwards, this is however, very rare and is not a necessity for piercing.

There are many types of navel jewellery available to decorate the belly button; however they are pierced with a barbell. A barbell is so named due to its resemblance to the weight lifting dumbbells. The type of the desired jewelry is to be decided during the piercing and a puncture has to be made accordingly.

The range of navel jewelry include Ball closure rings, Bananabells, Body spirals, Circular Barbells, Navel orbitals, Navel chains, Navel rounders, Flexible PTFE barbells, Clip in balls and Threaded accessories. The ball closure rings are the shape of finger rings or hoops which pass through the piercing and close when meet with the other end. They are a beautiful piece of navel adornment and add to the sex appeal. The Bananabells, as the name suggests is in the shape of a banana, and are the most famous in the category of navel jewelry.

They are studded with a gem on one end with a metal ball on the other or else the whole piece of jewelry is made up of a single metal. The body spirals are those which are of a twisted shape and can be inserted through the pierced hole. The ends of these spirals are available in a variety of shapes such as cones, dices, spheres and are also jeweled. Circular barbells are the ones resembling a hoop however they dont close at the end, thus forming an U shape. The one end of this barbell is open and is screwed after wearing the jewelry.

Navel orbitals are the ones which have a pendant like shape and covers the depression completely. The pendent is at one end and the other end is ball shaped which is inserted into the piercing.Navel rounders is like pendants, but is circular in shape and the end with the ball emerging from the circular shape. This piece of jewelry has resemblance to both Ball closure rings and the orbitals but those wearing it flaunt it in different ways.

Navel chains are made in a way that chains dangle from the hoops or the barbells. They provide a completely different range of navel jewelry and are more visible than the tiny hoops or barbells. Then there are the clip in variety of navel jewelry which can be clipped to the navel piercing. They add a dimension to the belly button. This type of navel jewellery covers the complete navel.

The blackline jewelry is in vogue with the new generation and the teenagers love to display some of these blackline navel jewelry. The blackline material consists of a PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating on G23 surgical Titanium. This coating helps maintain the surface (physical) properties of the metal without changing the chemical properties,

Thus, helping the metal to last longer. Surgical Stainless steel is considered to be the best metal to be used for navel piercing, but those with allergy to nickel are recommended to avoid it as steel contains nickel. Titanium is a good option as a material for navel jewelry as it is strong and light.

This metal can be given a wide range of colors by providing different voltages and thus make a good choice. Gold, any karat isnt a preferable metal to be used for the initial navel piercing as the juices secreted during piercing can react with gold and cause deterioration of the metal. Silver is also not recommended as it, like gold, reacts with the Sulphur in the body to form salts which can be harmful.
PTFE materials are Teflon and are widely used in making jewelry for the navel.

However, while getting the navels pierced care should be taken especially by the pregnant women. Piercing can prove harmful if done in a messy way during pregnancy, hence should be avoided. If opting one should stick to a professional. Those with already a navel piercing should wear the PTFE material as it is flexible and allows the stomach to expand without causing problems to the fetus. The size of the jewelry has to be changed as the pregnancy proceeds as per comfort. Usually a bigger piece of jewelry is suggested for pregnant women.
